Madeleine Vionnet was a French fashion designer nicknamed the "queen of the bias cut". Her designs were very much inspired by Grecian draping and influenced by the dancer Isadora Duncan. She dominated the haute couture world in the 1930s and her designs were worn by the likes of Greta Garbo, Katharine Hepburn, and Marlene Dietrich.

Her process for designing was a lengthy one often draping and constructing miniature dresses on small wooden dolls. Madeleine was also known to have helped revolutionize fashion by introducing ready to wear mass produced clothing.

    1. Oh goodness I know what you mean! Her designs were just so exquisite, and to think she started ready-to-wear basically! These gowns don't look at all "ready-to-wear"

  7. I have loved Vionnet since I first learned about her. Her designs are awe inspiring. The cutting & draping is so lovely. I saw a book once about her & it included patterns of her gowns. Oh, how I wish I would have bought it!! Thank you for featuring Vionnet.

  13. If there are competitors for the dress boutiques and shopping malls around the city, probably the first on the list are the online dress shops. They are superbly gaining popularity since online shopping is made widely available. From formal wears to wedding gowns, cocktail clothes or dresses for prom - name it and they have it.
