In 1951 she started freelancing for LIFE magazine and was one of the first women to successfully support herself as a photographer! Isn't that rad? To be inspired by something as a teen and then actually be living it within a couple decades, very cool.

Love the photos. I love the relaxed, "un-staged", un scripted look about them My favorite is the one of the man and lady on the bench with the Capitol building in the background. Great!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that one wonderful? I think these were friends or acquaintances of hers. If you go the source link these people are in numerous other photos on different occasions.

Yeah. Such an amazing collection of beautiful vintage pictures. I always like to see old vintage photographs in black and white display.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection and a great story! I love all the old LIFE photos that are currently doing the rounds, it's so interesting to see real life in the past.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! I'm always amazed at shots of ordinary women from the 1940s who somehow manage to look so glamorous while doing the most mundane things (waiting in line at the cafeteria or the bus station? I'm jealous / inspired to step it up a notch!) thanks for sharing!
