I've always loved vintage coats, particularly vintage coats from the 1930s and the late 1920s. I'm quite partial to anything from the 1930s though as it is one of my favorite eras for fashion.

Here are some gorgeous vintage 1930s coats from vintage catalogs and a few advertisements as well.

Vintage 1930s Coats from Catalogs and Magazines

These last few coats date into the late 30s early 40s and you can really how wide the shoulders are starting to get and the hemlines got a bit shorter. In my 30s biased opinion, you just can't beat the coat from the 1930s… theta long lean elegant silhouette for outerwear. I just love it!

I've come across several vintage photographs shot by German photographer, Marianne Breslauer, but never actually knew who she was! I recently discovered this series of Breslauer photographs and wanted to share some of my favorites. Not only are the photos themselves absolutely lovely, I also ardently admire the tomboy styles worn by her often photographed friend, Annemarie Schwarzenbach. If you want to see more of her work, you can visit this Marianne Breslauer pinterest board.

We are back with another collection of vintage sewing patterns, this time from the 1930s! What a treat it is to be able to look back at these and see the transformation of styles from decade to decade. You can really tell the 30s apart from other vintage pieces because of the lines and shapes of the clothes, so striking. The bias cut skirts, the neckline details, those draped sleeves! Take a look below and some of the patterns we found below as well as our favorite vintage 1930s clothing that are now available at our vintage shop.

When researching vintage clothing and fashion, one of the best sources is the New York Public Library Digital Image Gallery. You can browse through HUNDREDS of beautiful sketches and illustrations of vintage fashions and really have a better understanding of the trends and fads of a specific era.

Today we are going to be looking at vintage fashion and styles from the 1930s. Our online vintage shop regularly stocks clothing and dresses from the 1930s and most of these styles go fairly quickly. And it's no surprise why, the 1930s was an amazing time for beautifully made and well tailored garments!

One of recurring themes in these styles are the puffed sleeves wether they be short sleeved or elbow length. There is also the appearance of dropped shoulders, draped sleeves, and cape style sleeves. My favorite part about the 1930s silhouette are the bias cut skirts. So incredibly flattering on a woman's figure! I also am very much in love with prints from the 1930s. Just the most charming florals and very elegant and chic deco inspired patterns and textiles.

I spent last week photographing a portion of our collection of antique and vintage 1920s and 1930s purses and bags for the vintage shop. I love fancy little purses like these to dress up a simple skirt and blouse outfit or understated dress. I have this one vintage purse that I purchased awhile back from A Current Affair Vintage Market and I went through a phase of carrying it to the grocery store.

Of course I should have known a 1920s beaded beauty shouldn't be taken to a grocery shop (or in a bike basket on the way to farmer's market) but I was so attached to this vintage purse... the lining finally started shattering and there were a few bead casualties... anyhow... if you are looking for your own antique beaded (or crochet purse) to fawn over, here are some coming soon to Adored Vintage!

Oh the wonders of the internet! Whilst perusing Pinterest I happened upon a vintage photograph of 3 women impeccably dressed dating from the 1930s. LUCKILY this pinned photo provided the source (thank you for that!) and I was able to see even more photos of these women! I think this year is going to be a 1930s meets 1970s year as far as style inspiration goes for me (mixed with Edwardian, because I can't ever say goodbye to long skirts and lacey things)

Here are a few others of a lovely dressed lady named Mary Jane Elston and her two friends named Esther and Peggy.

Found Vintage Photos: Vintage 1930s style, Mary Jane Elston circa 1930s
These vintage photos are from Elston: Family Archive Photos and were snapped by Walter Elston, Mary-Jane's husband and scanned/shared by their grandson Chuck. I also love this vintage photo of Walter (the cameraman of these photos) tinkering with a camera.

Aren't these photos just so great?! I come across so many old photographs at flea markets and always wonder about the stories and lives of the people in the photos! The way these photos are framed makes me think that the photographer would have made a great cinematographer, don't you think? I especially love the duo shot of Esther and Peggy, looks like a movie still.
