I absolutely delight in coming across found vintage photographs all throughout the internet and since Pinterest came about, it has made sourcing and discovering these historic gems that much easier (and also more of a time suck). But I digress... I love seeing all these old photos!

The photo above makes me smile and makes me wish I was at the beach. Also, I want all those vintage bathing suits! Especially those white scalloped shorts, how cure are those?!

It has been a crazy couple of months around here! New apartment, opening a brick + mortar with my fella, new dog, new hair! I seldom stop and pause to think about the days gone by. Always this sort of mad rush to go forward, to keep doing...

Today, I am being very purposeful about taking a little breather and imagining myself in these vintage photos...lots of blank space, solitary moments. Once everything settles down a bit, I do think I'll go on a mini vacation. Away for the weekend or something. And I'll TRY not to even work!

As the summer is winding down we couldn't help but wish we went on a few more getaways. Well, what can ya do. Since we can't turn back time we decided to gather some of our favorite vintage vacation photos, and live vicariously through these summer travels at the beach, mountains, lake, and desert. (Oh hey, we did go to the desert!)

So I stumbled across these photos in the Google Life archives and it was pretty obvious within a nano-second that I needed to share these vintage 1950s photos with you gals! I love what all of these women are wearing (cute tomboy inspired styles) while they get their hands dirty.

Photographer Nina Leen never fails to make me feel all sorts of nostalgic for fashion eras gone by. She has such a way of capturing every day moments in a fashion photography light. These photos titled "Fashion in St. Louis" are from the 1944 and really depicts wonderful every day fashion from the 40s.

I really have no idea what is going on in these photos. My assumption is it's a fashion class? Maybe some kind of "how to be the best you can be" program? What do you think?

Oh the wonders of the internet! Whilst perusing Pinterest I happened upon a vintage photograph of 3 women impeccably dressed dating from the 1930s. LUCKILY this pinned photo provided the source (thank you for that!) and I was able to see even more photos of these women! I think this year is going to be a 1930s meets 1970s year as far as style inspiration goes for me (mixed with Edwardian, because I can't ever say goodbye to long skirts and lacey things)

Here are a few others of a lovely dressed lady named Mary Jane Elston and her two friends named Esther and Peggy.


These vintage photos are from Elston: Family Archive Photos and were snapped by Walter Elston, Mary-Jane's husband and scanned/shared by their grandson Chuck. I also love this vintage photo of Walter (the cameraman of these photos) tinkering with a camera.

Aren't these photos just so great?! I come across so many old photographs at flea markets and always wonder about the stories and lives of the people in the photos! The way these photos are framed makes me think that the photographer would have made a great cinematographer, don't you think? I especially love the duo shot of Esther and Peggy, looks like a movie still.

There's a familiar flutter of excitement that fills my belly when I spy a photo booth somewhere. In Los Angeles there are quite a few of them and for a short time I was happy to track them down because of Foursquare (there was a photobooth related badge!)

But more than anything I really love vintage photo booth photos! And as I was perusing some of my favorites over at Vintage Photo, a vintage photo booth tumblr, I started wondering about the photo booth itself? When was it invented, who invented it?

Well, in the briefest history of the invention of the photo booth... the photo booth was invented by Siberian immigrant named Anatol Josepho in 1925 and in 1927 he was paid $1,000,000 for his invention (in today's money that is approximately $13 MILLION!)



One of these days I'm going to wear one of my 1940s inspired outfits and pop into a photo booth. I'll probably liken it to time traveling. Ooo isn't that a pleasant thought! Here are some more gorgeous (and vintage fashion inspiring!) photobooth snaps from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. J'adore!

I adore this vintage photo from the 1940s. I'm not really sure why. I just do. Maybe it's their casual sportswear, perhaps it's the clouds in the sky, or the shadows nearly on top of them meaning it's probably about noon when this photo was taken. This vintage photo is of a couple in The Berkshires which after seeing photos I really want to go visit! (Ahh I miss New England so much sometimes)

These vintage wedding photos from the 1920s are so lovely to look at! I just adore the vintage wedding veils with the little wax flowers, the silhouette of the 1920s dresses, and gigantic bouquets they would carry. When I walk down that aisle again more than likely (like 90% chance) my wedding will be very 1920s inspired (lace veil, lots of flowers, simple flowing gowns, but hold the gigantic bouquets!)


I adore this wedding photo! Look how big those bouquets are! Also, isn't it adorable how all the women are standing, look at how their feet are posed, so ladylike!


This vintage wedding photo is actually from 1917, but the style was so similar to the other 1920s wedding photos I had to share it, and besides this photo is just fantastic!


More lace, gorgeous hair accessories, and giant bouquets! I adore the flower girl, look how HUGE her basket is! I bet the poor little thing struggled to walk up the aisle with that!


I LOVE LOVE LOVE this wedding photo. So elegant, simple, sweet, so vintage but looks completely modern. This is a photo of British prime minister Harold MacMillan with his wife Dorothy Cavendish on their wedding day.


I put these two together because it's so rare to see wedding photos of the bride and groom like the photo on the left. Usually they look rather glum on the happiest day of their lives! I still adore both photos though.


Oh goodness, these garden hats I just adore so much! This is probably a photo late in the 1920s (hemlines are a lot shorter and these types of hats weren't the normal until the late 20s early 30s). Oh my gosh the bridesmaid dresses, SWOON. I so wish I had a time machine so I could just be a spectator at this wedding (and then stolen a dress, not ALL of them, just one!)
