I must confess, I mostly watch Boardwalk Empire for the beautiful clothes the women wear (although the show is shot exquisitely!). Every time I see a scene in the dress shop or even the lingerie and robes worn by the ladies in their homes my heart goes all a flutter.

Boardwalk Empire

The costumes were designed by John A. Dunn and crafted by Martin Greenfield using the Fashion Institute of Technology's 1920s tailoring books as their main source of inspiration. (Yay for vintage inspirations!) A few pieces are rented from a vintage shop in Albany, NY (Daybreak Vintage Company).

In an interview with Esquire magazine (Sept 2010) costume designer John A. Dunn is quoted "I developed the feel for each of the characters. We all wanted it to be very, very accurate and specific to the period. So, I limited myself to the fabrics of 1920."

I absolutely adore the color scheme for this week's vintage shop updates! Coincidentally enough all the colors match one of my favorite bags in the shop, The "In Fair Verona" tapestry bag. I hope you gals love the return to color coordinated vintage updates, I know I certainly love it! *hehe*

MAGNOLIA BLOSSOMS 1940 - Scan

These vintage photographs were selected specifically because the clothes the women are wearing don't appear too costume-y or out of reach. Sometimes I see many beautiful gorgeous vintage 30s and 40s dresses at online vintage shops or even at vintage fashion expos, but I always wonder when would I wear these? They will only gather dust in my closet. So, I always tend to gravitate towards casual daywear vintage clothing as opposed to formal wear.

And even though these lovely vintage gals are in their casual clothes, don't they look so dapper anyway? They would frown upon my casual "going for a bike ride" outfit of leggings, t-shirt, and sneakers!

The past few weeks have been such a mish mosh of vintage shop updates, I had to find some common ground...hence the color grouping! I respond really well when like colors are placed together and racks of clothes are assembled with some cohesion.

I've been trying to juggle two different jobs (I'm a wardrobe stylist as well) and it's been shoot after shoot lately and I'm feeling a bit chaotic. So, for the month of December, I'm trying very hard to concentrate on AV and back to regularly updating with color schemes (my favorite sort of updates)

BTW, if you're curious... you can view my online styling portfolio here: www.rodellee.com It's a bit of a mess since I'm fnalizing a lot of the pages, but do have a looksie!

Look for more updates in the shop soon!

Vintage Outfit Favorites - Dec 6

I love when girls still wear dresses even when the weather gets cold and dreary. Nothing like a perky vintage dress paired with black tights to make you forget about the chill!

During today's photoshoot with one of my favorite girls from ANTM (Raina Hein) I was introduced to "Hipstamatic" by the wonderful hair stylist Paul Anthony Castro. And may I just say, it was love at first take. So, in the next few weeks I will be doing mini series of "hipstamatic" photos of just daily happenings in my little vintage world.

First on the list, a tour of my very girlie bathroom, one of the locations from today's French inspired boudoir shoot.

Hope you enjoyed the tour! ^_^

The shop is receiving a large update of dresses over the next few days! My favorite is probably the brown and white plaid Mod dress with the double panel of buttons along the front, it's something I see Alexa Chung or Zooey Deschanel wearing! Pair it with black tights, little loafers or ankle boots and you're set!
