We heard about the Pomona Antique Fair a couple of weeks ago while my fella was out and about doing his craft beer brew thing at the LA County Fair. We are both huge flea market dweebs, so we were only happy to check out this little street fair and see what treasures we could hunt down. (I'll be posting some of the goodies we got later on this week, lots of rad stuff!) We actually weren't planning on doing an outfit post, but I figured, why the heck not, we had pictures of what we were wearing and maybe you're curious? (And if not, that's cool too, this is my blog after all *wink*) So, here is what we wore to the Pomona Antique Faire...

In my mind I have this idyllic vacation of Paris. Like so many others, I fantasize of sitting at a cafe and enjoying a small coffee whilst smoking a cigarette (yes, I know it is BAD for you), wearing a little beret and me wrapped up in an oh so chic vintage trench coat wearing black ballerina flats ala Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face.

My Paris dreams, for the time being, must take a back seat as present life is taking its course and well, dreams just have to remain dreams for awhile.

But I did come across these ever so delightful vintage photographs of shops in Paris photographed between 1900 and 1926 and looking at the window shops of stores in Paris from bygone years...well it's like taking a mini vacation (Adored Vintage style) to France in oh... 2 minutes? sources & credits: George Eastman House, J Paul Getty Museum, and MoMa. When it comes to modern day fashion, frankly I hardly know what's going on. What I know of trends and what the masses of girls should be wearing on the streets I learn from my day job.

I happened upon this old collection from Luisa Beccaria circa Spring 2006 and a collection has never resonated so well with my own personal taste. Well ONE OF my personal tastes. I adore beautiful pretty vintage inspired clothes but as much as I love all things ultra feminine and ethereal I also love just a plain pair of chinos and a chambray button up.






What I love the most about this collection is the color palette. Creams, pale pinks, pale peach. I'm normally not into pale green or pale blue, but it's so slight here that it is just beautiful. The applique details on the dresses, the soft ruffles, the whispery flow of chiffon...all absolutely lovely. I want to wear one of these dresses and float around.

This past Saturday I had spent most of my precious studio time sorting through racks of vintage clothing, organizing bins, and the general moving stuff around so I feel more "sorted". Do you ever feel like that? Like you can't POSSIBLY get any work done at all until this, this, and this is done?

It was sweltering hot in my 5th floor sun drenched LA studio and despite all the windows being open (welcoming, or rather NOT welcoming the buzz of the streets below), I was sweating profusely. A lovely image, I know.

I had been staring at a rack of vintage coats for nearly 15 minutes and I just couldn't bring myself to photograph winter coats while perspiring in 90 degree weather. So... what did I shoot instead?

Vintage hats!! During my moving things around I completely had forgotten I had two hat boxes of vintage hats. I did try them on for a bit and dance around to (dare I say...Spice Girls...) wearing these fancy little toppers. So in short...in the shop this week will be a series of lovely vintage hats from the 1930s to the 1970s. Which vintage hat would you wear?

Hey vintage gals! I am really super excited about this vintage shop update. Normally blue isn't one of my favorite colors, but paired with black, creams, and more subdued tones I actually quite like it! I have a couple favorite pieces in this update...the pale blue cashmere 1950s cardigan. Gosh, it's just so sweet, isn't it? I would have kept it for myself, but it's a bit too big for me. Oh and I also ADORE the 1960s Emma Domb mod lace dress. It would be the perfect wedding dress for a darling mod bride with a wreath of daisies atop her wind blown locks, don't you agree? All of these will be added to the vintage clothing shop this weekend and you'll be able to shop it on etsy as well!

It is FINALLY starting to cool off in LA! I honestly do not remember it being this hot last September and I was so tickled to be able to wear a cardigan yesterday! I was organizing the vintage atelier yesterday and came across some delightful vintage 1940s dresses. The black sequined 1940s rayon dress and the green paisley silk dress were tucked in the back of a garment rack and I had nearly forgotten about them. So, snappity snap some photos I did take...and this week the shop will be getting a mini update of vintage dresses from the 1940s!

This past weekend I attended the LA County Fair in Pomono, CA. It was bloody hot and within half an hour my vintage dress was sticking to me. Not exactly the prettiest of pictures, but it was still quite fun and one of the nicest (and cleanest) fairs I've ever been to.


A couple of months ago I watched State Fair with Jeanne Crain and Dana Andrews. It was such a sweet and nostalgic movie and this weekend's past visit to the county fair inspired me to do a vintage photo post about it.

These vintage photographs were shot by Alfred Eisenstaedt at the Batavia, New York County Fair in 1941. I love these candid photos of the dancers and performers of the fair. I especially love the photo of the women ironing what appears to be a costume bolero and I absolutely LOVE the photo of the acrobat on the man's head while he drinks coffee and reads his paper. SO RAD!

I wonder what conversations these women had... what love interests there might have been, what secret rivalries there were... vintage photographs tell so many, many stories.
