If you follow Adored Vintage on Instagram or fan us on Facebook then you've probably seen the flurry of vintage 1930s and vintage 1940s dresses I've been posting! (BTW, Instagram and Facebook are the FIRST places I post previews...*hint hint*) So here is a larger preview of the racks of pretty vintage and antique clothes coming to the shop in the next couple of weeks!

Antique & Vintage Dresses from the 1900s to the 1940s for Adoredvintage.com Online Shop

I hadn't realized how much I love cranberry, burgundy, and wine colors until I put these racks together. I'll always love pale pink and peach, but in the colder months I apparently gravitate towards darker versions of my favorite colors. (It only seems natural!)

You can always send me a message rodellee@adoredvintage.com if there is something that has caught your eye and you would like more information on a particular vintage garment.

And do LIKE us on Facebook to see the previews first!

Now, before you get all up in arms about the nature of this post, I just want it to be very clear that I do not support the killing of any animals for their fur for shallow fashion reasons. I've recently posted a few photos on Facebook of stylish women in the 1930s and some fans have disliked the presence of fur trimmed garments. I of course never want to offend anyone, but just want to be clear that this post is purely for inspiration only, and not for any kind of platform for anti-fur or negative commentary.

Ahh this past week was so wonderful. The fella and I went to Portland to visit his family and we got to do a little bit of time traveling through his elementary, middle, and high school years. Lots of friends met, lots of food eaten, and lots and lots of vintage found for the shop!

So lots of news for the shop... and lots of events going on for the month of December!

1.] POP-UP MARKETPLACE: A CURRENT AFFAIR
This Saturday, December 1st, Adored Vintage again will be popping up and be open to the public at the Cooper Design Space in downtown Los Angeles. I'm quite excited about this show mostly because I finally can accept credit cards at the shows and my pretty Victorian inspired postcards I designed will arrive just in the nick of time (well I HOPE so anyway!)

2.] THE BIG SALE: 20%-40% OFF THE ENTIRE STORE
Everything in the shop is on sale until Friday! You can save 20% - 40% OFF vintage dresses, vintage wedding gowns, vintage jewelry, and lots more! Vintage Dresses on Sale

3.] TRUNK SHOW with MYRTLE in Echo Park
Details to be added later, but I'll be doing my first ever TRUNK SHOW (ahhh so nervous and excited!) at MYRTLE boutique in Echo Park.

---

A few other things I'm working on are having ADORED VINTAGE carried in local boutiques here in Los Angeles. It's definitely a brand new venture for me and the growth of AV...so we shall see. I am going to be praying to God for the best to happen.

I'm also going to be praying for a new workspace for AV and a new living situation for myself. I want to move outside of crazy downtown LA and my current neighborhood. The streets are so congested. Last night it took me 45 minutes to drive 5.4 miles. I've been complaining and moaning about it long enough, time to actually start the search! Ideally I would like to rent a house, someplace outside LA (unless by some miracle an adorable home in Silver Lake becomes available and is within my budget!)... I'm not sure where I want to move to yet. I'll just see what doors open up!

Maybe something will come within the next few weeks, maybe it will be a couple of months. I am going to have faith that the right place will come at the right time.

In other vintage news I've recently acquired nearly 100 new vintage for the shop and nearly half of it is 50s and earlier. I am SO EXCITED to be photographing them and updating the shop!

I'm also working on a new side project with the fella. A Men's Vintage Shop. I'll keep mum on that for awhile until things really start to look more final.

And one last bit of news that I am also so grateful for and feeling very blessed. My dear friend Ashley has recently connected me to her boss (who is fashion industry royalty) and I have been commissioned to design and develop her website. AHhh!!!

So, yes, lots of news. I'm incredibly busy and incredibly happy.

These photos of Elizabeth Taylor from the 1940s are some of my favorite photos of the blue eyed Hollywood bombshell. I just adore that she's doing quite simple things and while she still looks very glamorous, she also looks incredibly approachable and simple.

I so wish I knew who the original photographer was and year of these photos, if you do know, please share the info!

When I came across these vintage Seventeen magazine covers fro the 1940s I was astonished that this is the same Seventeen magazine around now. Seventeen was my second magazine subscription ever (Teen, R.I.P., was my first) and I kept most of them until I was in college (my Mom eventually threw them all out). And while the original seemed very focus on character, work, and how to be a good wife (at least that's how it seems to me), the current magazine seems a lot more shallow and fluffy. But then again, I haven't picked up a Seventeen magazine for years...

After a little digging around (well, actually I just checked Wikipedia) I unearthed plenty of information about Seventeen magazine!

"It began as a publication geared towards inspiring teen girls to become role models in work and citizenship." The magazine was birthed from an idea that then editor-in-chief, Helen Valentine, had in her mind to have a magazine for teenage girls focused on service and fashion. Most of the early articles focused on work, citizenship, fashion, and beauty.

Things really started to change up by the time Seventeen had it's 5th birthday. By this time Helen Valentine was no longer editor-in-chief and Seventeen started to shift towards a different ideal for women. It started to focus more on fashion, beauty, and consumerism, and a domesticated female.

Which Seventeen magazine would you prefer to read, the 1940s version or the ones today?

HAPPY BLACK FRIDAY!!! I'm stuffed to the gills with turkey, cranberry sauce, and sweet potatoes (mmm my favorite) and I thought how appropriate it would be to do a little black vintage dress feature on Black Friday since black is the most slimming color. And the way I am feeling right now (and I am absolutely POSITIVE my waist has ballooned 4 inches) a slimming dress would be much needed (or elastic pants...)

I strive to learn something new about vintage clothing every day and that usually includes leafing through old catalogs and vintage magazines as well as browsing through the thousands of vintage sewing patterns online. These vintage 1930s sewing patterns are all from Etsy and really illustrate the gorgeous frocks that many women made at a time when mass produced clothing wasn't the norm.

Vintage Sewing Patterns: 1930s Dresses

My sewing skills are very limited to mending seams, sewing on buttons, and fixing little repairs. My mother on the other hand is an amazing seamstress and could whip up one of these dresses (without a pattern!) in a day. It's really quite amazing that my Mom is so skilled with clothing construction and I am just learning how to sew straight seams.

Vintage Photo of the Day: 1940s Couple in the Berkshires

I adore this vintage photo from the 1940s. I'm not really sure why. I just do. Maybe it's their casual sportswear, perhaps it's the clouds in the sky, or the shadows nearly on top of them meaning it's probably about noon when this photo was taken. This vintage photo is of a couple in The Berkshires which after seeing photos I really want to go visit! (Ahh I miss New England so much sometimes)

These vintage wedding photos from the 1920s are so lovely to look at! I just adore the vintage wedding veils with the little wax flowers, the silhouette of the 1920s dresses, and gigantic bouquets they would carry. When I walk down that aisle again more than likely (like 90% chance) my wedding will be very 1920s inspired (lace veil, lots of flowers, simple flowing gowns, but hold the gigantic bouquets!)

Vintage Photos: 1920s Wedding Photos & The Bridal Party
I adore this wedding photo! Look how big those bouquets are! Also, isn't it adorable how all the women are standing, look at how their feet are posed, so ladylike!

Vintage Photos: 1920s Wedding Photos & The Bridal Party
This vintage wedding photo is actually from 1917, but the style was so similar to the other 1920s wedding photos I had to share it, and besides this photo is just fantastic!

More lace, gorgeous hair accessories, and giant bouquets! I adore the flower girl, look how HUGE her basket is! I bet the poor little thing struggled to walk up the aisle with that!

Vintage Photos: 1920s Wedding Photos & The Bridal Party
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this wedding photo. So elegant, simple, sweet, so vintage but looks completely modern. This is a photo of British prime minister Harold MacMillan with his wife Dorothy Cavendish on their wedding day.

Vintage Photos: 1920s Wedding Photos & The Bridal Party
I put these two together because it's so rare to see wedding photos of the bride and groom like the photo on the left. Usually they look rather glum on the happiest day of their lives! I still adore both photos though.

Oh goodness, these garden hats I just adore so much! This is probably a photo late in the 1920s (hemlines are a lot shorter and these types of hats weren't the normal until the late 20s early 30s). Oh my gosh the bridesmaid dresses, SWOON. I so wish I had a time machine so I could just be a spectator at this wedding (and then stolen a dress, not ALL of them, just one!)

I've been working on a few little side projects on Adored Vintage such as the vintage clothing sewing terminology guide and the vintage bulletin, along with the daily ins and outs of running an online vintage store that my daily outfits have been to say the least, a bit lazy. If you follow adoredvintage on instagram then you would have seen one of these lazy outfits, also known as my "boyfriend uniform".

Vintage Inspired Outfit, Modern Day 1940s

And of course when one dresses in a lazy manner and wears their hair in a messy bun for the 5th day in a row, then one starts to feel fuddy duddy and last night I was feeling this very much. So my antidote for this fuddy duddiness is to dress up in something pretty, yet simple, and put on red lipstick. Of course by the time I got to taking these photos the red lipstick was long gone, but for 9 AM this morning, it did the trick.

Vintage Inspired Outfit, Modern Day 1940s

I was going to do my hair up in a 1940s hairstyle this morning, but seeing as I had to go into work today, I knew I'd ruin it and just put it into a bun, so I straightened out my curls instead. I very rarely wear head to toe vintage (and my head to toe I mean hair, makeup, and clothing) mostly because I can't quite carry the whole vintage look like some vintage fashion bloggers can. I do very much admire girls that wear their hair in 40s hairstyles and have perfectly done makeup. But sadly I will not achieve that polished vintage look and I know it's not really me either.

My definition for vintage for my own self (and obviously this doesn't apply to everyone who wears vintage, just me personally, if you ever cared to wonder) is vintage that looks modern. I love mixing vintage clothing with modern day clothing in a way that makes it difficult for someone to figure out WHICH is vintage and which isn't.

What is your definition of vintage fashion for your own personal style? What's your antidote for the fuddy duddies?
