Long before there was disco Cher (who is awesome) there was Native American/Southwest inspired Cher (equally as awesome). Ok, so maybe it's not too long before, only a few years. In the early 1970s Cher often modeled in Vogue magazine (probably a lot of that has to do with the then Vogue editor in chief, Diana Vreeland, who loved how Cher looked) and in most of these editorial stories Cher wore a lot of incredible Native American jewelry, colors, and textures. Also, can I just say how much I love her pin straight black mane? Makes me want to grow mine out then get a Brazilian blow out so I can channel my "take me back to 1973" native spirit.

All right, I know that last photo (in the bottom right corner) isn't of Cher, but you get the vibe. Here are some more Southwest/Native American fashion + lifestyle inspirations. Adored Vintage | Shop vintage clothing from the 1970s

The 1970s is one of our favorite periods for fashion, or rather, a very specific couple of years in the 1970s is one of our favorite periods for vintage fashion. Those 3-4 golden years in the 1970s when the 1920s/1930s made a short comeback and the Edwardian revival from the late 60s was petering away into the first half of this decade.

I'll admit I've never seen Woody Allen's "Annie Hall" but I am so familiar (and in love) with Diane Keaton's trouser/vest/tie combo she wears in the film. I love Menswear and since dating my fella who loves fashion in his own right, I've definitely changed up my wardrobe adding chambray shirts, trousers, grandpa cardigans...and introducing colors other than peach, pink, and cream into my closet.


I love how classic all of these vintage inspired outfits are. Menswear is timeless to me. Have you ever noticed that men's fashion really hasn't changed much at all in the past 100 years? Of course there are trends and fads, but for the most part, menswear is just classic and timeless. You can invest in a few quality pieces that you can wear into your olden days.

One of my favorite websites to peruse is Ciao Vogue which features a bunch of scans from vintage Vogue magazines mostly published in the 1970s. Here are a few of my favorite vintage fashion editorials, advertisements, and snippets from the year 1975.

There have been countless fashion editorials inspired by Faye Dunaway as Bonnie Parker in the 1968 film "Bonnie & Clyde" with Warren Beatty, but honestly, nothing beats the original. I love her wardrobe in the entire film, especially the first cream colored dress she wears when she runs out of the house to meet Clyde. It's a definite vintage movie must see, and if you're into the story of Bonnie + Clyde, I recommend reading more about them on Biography.com


Faye Dunaway has one of those gorgeous chameleon faces. She can look different but still always look like herself all at the same time. Kind of like Kate Moss, one moment she's girl next door pretty the next moment a total bombshell.

I absolutely love flipping through old magazines. I think it's one of the reasons I never throw away my old magazines and instead keep stacks of them in forgotten corners of my closet. All the images below are from Ciao Vogue and are edited scans from original vintage vogue magazines from 1973.


If you are a vintage seller and/or collector one of the best sources for dating vintage is to do plenty of research by reading magazines! Seeing the editorials and advertisements really helps to pinpoint specific styles of clothes.


I never really realized how much I loved the styles of the early 1970s until I viewed all these images. Long drapey dresses, 1930s silhouette inspirations, 1920s cloche hats, swingy skirts, and belted cardigans and sweaters. I'm totally loving it!
