I think it goes without saying that we at Adored Vintage love neutrals and today we're taking a time machine back to the 1970s to delve into fashion inspiration that embodies what the modern day AV gal is all about: chic, effortless, and timeless fashion.

And speaking of effortless and chic ladies, I must bring up Gretchen Jones and her fashion project The Neutral Territory in which for the entire year of 2014 she eliminates one color from her wardrobe every month to experiment with an all natural wardrobe. Gretchen's style very much resonates with what I love about the vintage seventies fashion inspiration I posted here. She has a wonderful knack of pairing patterns, textures and shapes together with ease and adds just the right amount of jewelry accents to finish it off nicely. Seriously though, go check out her blog! You'll probably want to throw out all your brightly colored clothes after, or at least stock them away until you want to wear the rainbow again (speaking from experience, all my brightly colored 1970s kaftans, 60s minis, and 2000s DVFs are safely stocked away in storage)

Adored Vintage | Shop vintage clothing from the 1970s
December 15, 2013
One of my favorite things to do when I get a new batch of vintage clothing to process in the shop is to admire all the details of the garment. On Instagram I often will snap photos of the details of vintage clothing such as embroidery, lace, soutache, embellishment… but sometimes the insides of a vintage dress is so much more spectacular on the outside. I especially love discovering when dresses have pellon linings! For more peeks at vintage clothing details… give Adored Vintage a follow on Instagram!

I saw these vintage 1940s fashion illustrations floating about on Pinterest and I thought they were just catalog scans at first glance, but after clicking to the original source of these vintage fashion illustrations, I found out their true nature... these are sample fabric swatches for Fashion Frocks, a dress manufacturing company that had their home base in Ohio. There's a little bit of info about the building they occupied in the 1930s on wikipedia.

Not only are these vintage fashion drawings absolutely lovely, but the fact that these are ACTUAL fabric samples just makes me heart quicken a whole lot. I MUST have these!! The company was around since the 1920s and stopped producing clothing in the 1970s. Seriously, I MUST have these. I'm not really one to collect anything, but these are just an amazing piece of vintage fashion history!

These Fashion Frocks/Hardford Frocks sample pages are from Miss Amy on flickr.

Fashion Frocks was a company from Cincinnati, OH that employed housewives as salespeople to sell clothing to friends and neighbors "door-to-door" ... they would be armed with these wonderful sample sales cards for women to order from. It was a way of bypassing the retailers and selling directly to consumers, at better value-pricing. One of the company taglines is "It's fashion-wise to be thrifty." - from FASHION FROCKS flickr set

We've updated the vintage clothing shop with some fun and colorful classics mostly from the 1950s. Very reminiscent of those sweet country/rural themed movies and TV shows in the 50s and 60s. We're particularly fond of the vintage 1950s sundresses, aren't they lovely? And the crisp white cotton 1950s blouse would pair so well with the vintage striped I Magnin skirt in our opinion. Just add a pair of wrap around espadrilles and you're bombshell pretty for the town fair!
