I've been catching up on Season 2 of Downton Abbey with my fella (we're both fans of the show) so I thought I would dedicate a post to the costumes from Downton Abbey as this period of fashion is one I rather fancied. I am excited to see the fashions evolve into the late teens and early 20s! Also, these are only highlights from Episodes 1, 2 and 3 of Season 2 as those are the only episodes I have seen thus far!

The vintage inspired clothes from The Edge of Love I go all a flutter for. Keira Knightley looks absolutely stunning in every single frame, she is so gorgeous in this movie, even towards the end when she's less glamorous. I love that this movie really portrays everyday fashion in the 1940s (well for Welsh country/beach side that is). J'adore! (click on thumbnails for larger image)

About a year ago I was at a little bookshop in Hollywood for a friend's book reading and when all was said and done my eye caught the cover of the book "Bonjour Tristesse" (Hello Sadness) by Françoise Sagan.

Bonjour Tristesse movie with Jean Seberg and Deborah Kerr

The book opens with "A strange melancholy pervades me to which I hesitate to give the grave and beautiful name of sorrow." and I remember thinking, well, that sounds lovely.

I just saw the screencaps for the movie which was released a few years after the book was published. I hadn't realized it had been made into a film and it stars Jean Seberg and Deborah Kerr! After you read the book you will realize the movie is perfectly cast!

A definite must read and definite must watch! The fashion is fantastic (late 50s French riviera) and the movie has amazing scenery.

There are so many lovely early Edwardian and World War I era fashions in the PBS Masterpiece Downton Abbey. The UK Period drama is about the aristocratic Crawley family and the servants that live in the vast Downton Abbey estate. Plenty of gossip, politics, secrets, and family rivalries... and of course, beautiful wonderful costumes!

Set in the Edwardian Era, this film adaptation of E. M. Forster's novel has been added to my top 20 favorite films ever. It's just sweet and lovely and the wardrobe features all things lace, ruffled, and romantic.

The movie has an all star cast featuring Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Julian Sands.
